“9/10!” – Our Name Decals reviewed by Cycling Weekly

This article was first seen on Cycling Weekly.

If you want to give your bike the pro touch, then these Pegatin frame stickers are one of the easiest (and least expensive) ways that you can go about it

Product Overview

Overall rating:

SCORE 9

Pegatin Vinyl transfer

Pros:

  • Attractive type face
  • Huge number of options
  • Great quality

Cons:

  • Take care when applying

Product:

Pegatin custom stickers

Price as reviewed:

£29.99

We love customisation and name stickers are a great, but subtle way to make your pride and joy unique. For just £9.99 you can get a set of ten Pegatin stickers with your name and choice of flag to make sure you can always tell what bike is yours.

For a little bit more money, you can have your name written in both white and black (meaning you can use it on light colour surfaces), and for £29.99 they will be vinyl transfers with individually cut letters. Thats what we have here, the vinyl transfers.

A huge range of flags are available - even Yorkshire!

The stickers come in sheets, such as those pictured above. The vinyl transfers look great, but are also ideally suited to matte frames. The standard acetate stickers can reflect light slightly, looking out of place on a matte bike frame.

First press the stickers on and rub the cover paper, to stick the individual letters

To apply the transfers you cut an individual one out, remove the backing paper and press the transfer against your clean dry bike surface. Press down and rub the individual letters, to ensure they stick and then carefully peel back the cover paper.

This process takes a little care and can result in odd letters not sticking properly. However, having done it many times on lots of different bikes, we have found them to work consistently very well. Just make sure your frame is clean and there is no finishing spray on the surface as this can interfere with the glue.

Having ridden with these stickers on bikes for the last 10 months, I can report that they certainly stand up very well to bike washing and bad weather. Durability is great, but I would suggest taking care in situations such as putting your bike in a car as they are not bullet proof.

For more information, head over to Pegatin

Verdict

High quality stickers, that are durable, look great and make a great, inexpensive personal gift for any cyclists you know

Bike Stickers for Team Rwanda

A couple of weeks ago, we attended the Mountain Bike World Championship in Andorra, in the Pyrenees, to support Team Rwanda. We provided all of their bike stickers, car decals and stickers to hand out to their fans.

Long story short, what a great weekend we had spending time with the guys and waving the Rwanda flag!

Team Rwanda have fought against the odds to make their mark on the world of cycling and mountain biking. They don’t have the resources other teams have and so rely on help from other teams and sponsors (it was very nice to end up in Team Scott’s tent at the end, with World Champion Nino Schurter) but, even so, they have a killer road bike team and a increasingly skilled mountain biker (also a road cyclist),  in the form of Nathan Byukusenge.

Thanks again to Jeremy at Team Rwanda for inviting us along to participate in the adventure!

Follow the team here: https://www.teamafricarising.org/teamrwanda/

Update: very shortly, we’ll be launching a line of bike stickers specifically for Team Rwanda fans – stay tuned!

Pro Cycling – The “Sticky Bottle” vs “Blatantly Hanging On”

Pro Cycling updates: If you’ve been following the Vuelta a España (congrats to @PetoSagan, by the way, on his Stage win – well deserved) you’ll have seen that, just a day after Vincenzo Nibali’s expulsion for hanging on to a vehicle for 200 metres, Nacer Bouhanni was fined just 100 swiss francs for, wait for it, the old “sticky bottle” trick, or, put more blatantly, hanging on to a bottle attached to the arm of someone in a vehicle.

Now, there was a key difference between the two riders’ actions: whereas Bouhanni was being aided to rejoin a group, Nabili was being pulled away from one and at about 60kph, which is clearly worse. But even so, in our opinion any type of artificial aid is wrong and it’s hypocritical to treat riders differently for variations of the same offence.

Yes, riders in pro cycling have support teams and vehicles with them. But at the end of the day, a bike race should be about a rider and his/ her bike, powered by his/ her own steam. Crashes and malfunctions occur and so do injuries. But that’s part of the competition and the excitement. During an already significant period of soul searching in the otherwise wonderful – and it is wonderful – world of professional cycling, there shouldn’t be any confusion about this type of thing.

That’s our opinion. What do you think? :)

Cyclist Bradley Wiggins Breaks Hour Record

Several days ago, British cyclist Bradley Wiggins beat Alex Dowsett’s Hour Record distance of 52.937km. In fact, he beat this time with a couple of minutes to go, but continued riding to hit a final distance of 54.526km (that’s right – in these races you need to go to 3dp).

He accomplished this incredible feat on a bike made by Pinarello and British car company Jaguar – there’s a bike almost everyone would like to own!

Dowsett’s coach, Steve Collin, has come out and said that the attempt was illegal on the basis that 1. the bike wasn’t in production – according to UCI regulation, they now have 9 months to make the bike commercially available, though another rule states that the bike can’t be specifically built for the purpose of attaining a particular performance, so it’s rather confusing. And, 2, he received too much help from Britain’s Cycling body, British Cycling. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming week.

In either case, Wiggins described the attempt as “torture”, a word used commonly by endurance athletes. It was brilliant to watch. A few have complained about it being boring – but I’d say to these people, what isn’t boring when you’re not 100% behind the individual/ team involved? I mean, try watching football if you don’t care who wins…it’s awful!

Over and out :)

Our favourite photos from the last week

Spring’s here and it looks as though people are getting some great rides in. And it’s not just the cyclists who’re out – in Northern Spain, where we produce our custom name decals, the roads are teaming with long distance runners, long-boarders and even rollerbladers and the beaches are full of sailors and kitesurfers (which looks so much fun!). It’s great to see so many people taking time out of their busy lives to do something they love, alone or with a group.

Anyway, here’s this week’s collection of our favourite photos customers have sent in of their bikes displaying Pegatin Pro name decals

You can see our previous post in the series here :)

Our favourite photos from the last week

We love bikes (how could you not, frankly?) and, every time a person purchases a pack of Pegatin custom name decals, we ask them to send us a photo. We’ve been in business for a few years now – we recently hit the 50,000 customer mark! – and have several thousand images (what’s quite interesting, on occasion, is to order them by date and look at how bike design is changing). Anyway, here’s a small selection of some our favourite customer photos from the last week:

ReviewMyBike – a Quick Update

As you know, if you’ve found your way to our webpage, our main business is the production of custom name decals personalised with a rider’s name and flag. But, earlier in 2014, we embarked upon a new project to create the “Tripadvisor” of the cycling world – a website that enables cyclists to write reviews of not only their bikes, but also cycling destinations and sportives (and, in the future, undoubtedly more categories).

We opened the doors to ReviewMyBike in September. It wasn’t our official launch – in fact, we hardly announced it – but rather, learning from past mistakes, we wanted to start speaking with potential users about what the site did and how we could make it better. And that’s exactly what we’ve done. Since then, 700 people have signed up, 200 have contributed reviews and we’ve changed literally hundreds of details based on people’s feedback.

We will be officially launching ReviewMyBike in the coming months with a competition (we’ve been given prizes from companies like Copenhagen Road, Knog, Hammerhead, High5 Nutrition and more, and we’re looking in to giving away a road bike too!)

To check out the latest road and mountain bike reviews, head on over! If you want to contribute now, brilliant – and you’ll still be included in the competition!
